Dear Goddard Students, Parents, and Guardians:
Thank you for visiting our website today! I hope you will spend some time on the website getting to know who we are and what we do with students that makes us such a terrific school.
As I begin my twentieth year in public education, I am as excited about this year as I was about my first. We will be working throughout 2008-2009 on a variety of initiatives that we think will make Goddard better and better for our students:
- Our teachers will continue to work together in professional learning communities to improve teaching and learning for all of our students. Thanks to all of you for supporting the late-start schedule that makes this work possible.
- Goddard will be working with the Public Education and Business Coalition to improve our efforts in literacy instruction. We appreciate the support of the district for this two-year partnership. Look for more information about this partnership in our fall newsletters.
- Our PTO will partner with us to raise funds this fall for a new and improved climbing wall in our gym. Later this spring, students can look forward to a wall that allows six students to climb at a time!
- All of our students will be heading out to the Challenge Course this year as we continue our school-wide effort to make sure that every student has this opportunity every year.
- With support from the Colorado Department of Education and from our District, we will be rolling out a program designed to improve student behavior and school climate. The program is called “Positive Behavior Support.” Join us at Back to School Night and check out our fall newsletters for more information about this topic.
And speaking of those twenty years in education. . . .
I started my career in the fall of 1989 as a social studies and English teacher at Skyview High School in Thornton, Colorado. After six years in the classroom, I was an instructional coach for one year and an assistant principal for three more years. I came to Littleton Public Schools in the fall of 1989, as the assistant principal at Arapahoe High School. In the fall of 1992, I came to Goddard to serve as the principal. I have a BA in political philosophy from Wellesley College, and an MA and a PhD in Education from the University of Denver.
On a personal note, I love to read and play the piano. Together with my husband, I enjoy cross country skiing, running (slowly), and sailing. As much as I love Colorado, I also love the ocean. I grew up in Gloucester, Massachusetts, and Port Jefferson, New York, both small towns on the ocean. My first job in education was teaching kids how to sail – twenty at a time in ten different boats. It was good preparation for middle school because everyone went in their own direction at their own speed.
