 About Goddard

Goddard Middle School is the second largest of the four middle schools in the Littleton Public School District, serves nearly 875 students and includes a staff of eighty.  Many of our staff members are State Teachers of the Year and have been selected to be included in Who's Who in Among America's Teachers.

Our goals are to prepare students for an ever-changing world, to support the development of confident and caring young people and to model life-long learning. The school is composed of three neighborhoods with teams of Core teachers. Core and elective teachers integrate learning within the neighborhood during the student's three years at Goddard Middle School. Students have numerous opportunities for meaningful learning experiences, to develop self-respect and responsibility, to think critically, and to be assessed in multiple ways.

 School Goal

To create a high-performing school that supports continuous learning, pride in individual accomplishment, and growth toward independence and social responsibility.

 CollegeInvestMinimize

Your Higher Education Financing Resource

CollegeInvest is a not-for-profit division of the Colorado Department of Higher Education. As such, our only goal is to help students get education beyond high school. So we focus on providing expert information, simple planning tools, scholarships, saving plans, and low-cost student and parent loans, all to take your educational dollars as far as they can go.

A college education opens the door to a lifetime of learning, but it comes with a cost. That's where we come in. It's never too early or too late to start planning for you or your family's college financing

 40th Birthday for GMSMinimize
Goddard is 40 this year and we need your help to plan a wonderful commemoration and celebration!

Please join us for a meeting on Monday afternoon, November 3rd, at 3 p.m. at school.  The committee will be facilitated by Curt Christensen, longest-serving teacher at GMS, Karen Alexander, PTO President, and GMS Principal, Dr. Amy Oaks.  Everyone is welcome to help and you may forward this e-mail to friends, alums, and community members.  Please let Maureen Anderson know if you will be able to attend.  You can reach her via e-mail or by phone (303-347-7850).  Check in at the main office on that afternoon and she will direct you to our meeting.

 LeadershipMinimize
Goddard Middle School has historically nominated students to attend two different leadership conferences.  Participants in these events demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential, strong character and maturity and can be nominated from a variety of clubs or organizations (scouts, religious institutions, sports clubs, etc).

While Goddard will officially no longer be a nominating source, we support participation for any students that are nominated and able to attend.

LITERARY AWARD OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUR STUDENTS

Letters About Literature is a free, annual student writing competition where participants write a letter to an author who has inspired them to change their view of themselves or the world.   Deadline is December 6, 2008.

§  This national and statewide contest has three levels: Level I is grades 4-6; Level II is grades 7 & 8; Level III is grades 9-12.
§  Over 56,000 young writers across America entered LAL last year.
§  Six National Winners will each receive: A $ 500 Target Gift Card and a $10,000 LETTERS ABOUT LITERATURE READING PROMOTION GRANT for their community or school library for literacy programming.
§  Twelve National Honorable Mention Winners will each receive: A $100 Target Gift Card and a $1,000 LETTERS ABOUT LITERATURE READING PROMOTION GRANT for their community or school library for literacy programming.
§  Free Teacher’s Guides to Letters About Literature, as well as mailing address and further details, are available at www.coloradohumanities.org <http://www.loc.gov/loc/cfbook/letters.html>

River of Words encourages children to create original poetry or artwork about our natural surroundings. River of Words also accepts poetry written in Spanish or signed in American Sign Language (ASL). Deadline for contest entry is February 15, 2009.

§  The program “strives to give children a sense of place and belonging” through awareness of the natural world, according to co-founder and former US Poet Laureate Robert Hass. This program is open to ages 5 through 19.
§  Last year, over 20,000 students participated in ROW. The national winners read their poetry for an audience of hundreds at the San Francisco Public Library.
