Welcome to the 2009-10 Geography Bee Season: Where we have fun while learning about the world around us.
Mission Statement: The Goddard Geography Bee’s goal is to further the interest and enjoyment of learning about the world around us which in turn prepares us to be well-rounded citizens of the world.
Who are the sponsors: Mrs. Donahue, Mr. Lobb and Mr. Vinson
When Do We Meet: Thursdays in Mr. Vinson's room - 205. In case of scheduling conflicts an announcement will be made, please listen up. Team members must attend at least one meeting each week unless a prearranged absence has been made.
How the Bee works: In December, before winter break, we will hold a preliminary competition.* This will allow us to determine the top ten participants for the championship bee. The winner of the bee will take a written test provided by The National Geographic Society. The top 100 high score finishers will then participate in the State Geography Bee held at the University of Denver. Date to be announced.
Cost: $3 for snacks.
** Preparation for the Bee During each meeting we will work on all aspects of geography including map reading skills, related terminology, country identification, current events, play geography games, hold mock competitions and drill, drill, drill. Cooperative behavior is imperative to cover as much information as possible.
*Depending on the number of participants we may not have a preliminary competition. **This date is usually the first Friday in April.
GODDARD GEOGRAPHY BEE CHAMP
COMPETES AT STATE
Friday, April 4th was non-school day for Forrest Glebbe as he was vying for the state geography championship at the University of Denver. The competition was tight as the best geography students, all 102 of them, travelled from around the state for the Geographic Bee. Forrest was the sole representative from the Littleton Public School District and did he ever represent us! Forrest missed only one question during the eight preliminary rounds that included questions about national parks of the United States, physical geography, historical geography and world geography. Two spots were available to round off the top ten who would compete in the final Bee. He and 19 other students went into sudden death tie-breaker competition. Unfortunately, Forrest did not move on from there. We are very proud of Forrest for placing in the top 28 students statewide.
